Bearfeet Prototype
Final Prototype
As the final prototype of the project, the design centers upon protecting the sesamoid (the side of the ball of the foot) and the calcaneus (the heel) from blister protection, as justified by conducted problem interviews. The exterior is a vinyl/polyester blend for its durability, water resistance, and low friction nature while the core is a polyethylene foam as it is sustainable, durable, and comfortable. Initial field tests of this design found the prototype preventing sesamoid and calcaneus hotspots from forming compared to the control group, an identical foot and boot with no additive soles or ointments.
